The man, who stabbed an oncologist multiple times at a government hospital in Chennai, walked away calmly after the crime, a video from the incident showed on Wednesday. He was the son of one of the former patients of Balaji Jagannathan, the doctor who was attacked at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital.
The video, now going viral, showed the accused Vignesh covertly fishing out a knife after the crime, wiping it and then hiding it to his right. He then calmly walks and throws the knife away.
“He cut him,” voices in the background can be heard repeatedly, and security personnel can be seen pointing at Vignesh, trying to get to him. “Catch him,” people can be heard shouting.
Vignesh then attempted to flee but was caught and later arrested by the police. He was presented before Saidapet Court Magistrate and sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
The video of the incident shows him arguing with the security personnel. The guards can be seen holding the man down as people around get agitated. When someone starts hitting the young man, a woman intervenes and stops the attack.
The man was later handed over to the police.
Dr Jagannath is a renowned oncologist and a teacher at the state-run Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital.
Vignesh stabbed the doctor multiple times inside the outpatient room during a conversation regarding his mother’s treatment. He attacked the doctor because he allegedly suspected that the doctor had prescribed the wrong medication to his mother.
Dr Jagannath sustained seven stab wounds in the attack, is being treated, and he is stable.
