Jimmy Kimmel expresses disappointment over Trump’s election win: Terrible night

In a monologue on his late-night show, an emotional Jimmy Kimmel shared his profound dismay over the recent US presidential election outcome, in which Donald Trump emerged victorious. Fighting back tears, Kimmel described the night as “the worst Taco Tuesday” of his whole life, expressing frustration and concern over the election results.
Reflecting on the choice between the two candidates – Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, he stated, “We had the choice between a prosecutor and a criminal, and we chose the criminal to be President of the United States. More than half of this country voted for the criminal who’s planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged.”
Kimmel went on to convey his sadness for those he believes will be most affected by the outcome, including women, children, immigrants, and those who depend on healthcare, social security, and other essential services.
“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go,” he remarked, listing those he fears will be impacted by Trump’s policies. The host voiced concerns over issues ranging from climate change and journalism to justice and free speech. He continued, “It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too—you just don’t realise it yet,” Kimmel said.
In a moment of cutting sarcasm, Kimmel noted that the night was a “good” one for figures such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as for “polio” and “lovable billionaires like Elon Musk and the bros up in Silicon Valley,” taking aim at those he believes are set to benefit from the Trump administration.
Despite his sadness, Kimmel ended his address on a note of resilience and respect for the democratic process.

He urged viewers to accept the election result, while encouraging them to resist despair or any violent backlash. “I’m gonna say something that Trump would never say unless it favoured him,” Kimmel said. “The people voted, and this is the choice we made. In January, Donald Trump becomes president and that’s that; he won. It doesn’t mean we give up, but it also doesn’t mean we storm the Capitol because we don’t like the result.”
He concluded with a reflection on the potential long-term impact of the election. “Maybe we will look back and realise that in the long run, this is what we needed to wake us up. Maybe the people who care so much about him need to find out how little he cares about them.”
Besides Jimmy Kimmel, several other Hollywood celebrities, including Cardi B, Alec Baldwin, Christina Applegate and James Lee Curtis, expressed their disappointment over the 2024 presidential election results.
