Man jailed for sex assault on Emirati women at theme park

DUBAI // Two Emirati women were molested by a tourist when a theme park attraction was plunged into darkness.
The women, aged 18 and 22, visited the Haunted Hotel at IMG Worlds of Adventure on September 24 last year when they noticed two men walking behind them.
The younger woman asked them to walk in front, but they declined and later one of the men “stuck his body to mine”, she told Dubai Criminal Court.
During a hearing in January, the defendant, a Pakistan national aged 28, denied a charge of sexual assault.
But he was convicted on Tuesday and sentenced to three months in jail. He will be deported after serving his prison term.
A few minutes after the attack, the woman felt someone grab her by the shoulder. She thought it was her friend but realised it was the defendant
“I didn’t say anything to him,” the teenager said. “I was scared he would do something far worse since we were in the middle of the place but he then started touching me all over my body and pressing against me from the back.”
Her friend said she was also sexually assaulted by the man. When they left the Haunted Hotel, they both started screaming at him, the court was told.
“We reported him at once,” said the older woman.
CCTV cameras at the attraction were unable to record the incident because of the darkness. Footage recorded only the women screaming at the defendant.
